Mardi Gras Day

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

A while before the day, my aunt, Poncho, came down. Two of our friends, Mark and Jackie, also came down. They all made the event much more enjoyable ^_^, despite the fact that I was sick for the entire time (DX why?!?) So, that day, we went to Keith’s house and then headed down to the quarter. We caught the last of the saint anne parade and saw some amazing costumes! My dad says that the event was very inspirational, and I have to agree. So, more time at the sowing machine for me! After, we went through the quarter, and headed home… that was about it… if you want to see some cool photos, I recommend going to my dad’s flickr account. Just go to www.flickr.com and search his name. Thats about it…

Mardi Gras 2007

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

:) Well, it was another great year for Mardi Gras. I caught lots of stuff including approximately 5 Super Muse comic books, 3 bendy spears, 10 normal spears, and lots of other great stuff. I love Muses and Zulu and every other parade! Muses is so awsome. I love how they the weirdest stuff like makeup, nail kits, and shoes! So to sum up all that I have said in one sentence, Mardi Gras ROCKS!!! :)

Krewe du Vieux

Wednesday, February 7th, 2007

Last Saturday we worked on our Barkus float. Barkus is next Sunday. Then at night we went first to our friend Keith’s house. He lives in Treme close to the French Quarter. We ate a lot of good food and after a while me and my brother went into another room and watched tv while the older people chatted. A few other kids showed up, and then we all went to the French Quarter to watch Krewe du Vieux. Normally I like going to Krewe du Vieux because it sort of starts off Mardi Gras for us. But this year the parade was very short and I only caught five things, and I was one of the lucky ones. The floats were moving very fast. Mostly donkeys pulled the floats, which is unusual because with the bigger parades it is tractors. My dad told me many bloggers from New Orleans are in Krewe du Vieux. He also said there has been a lot of controversy about it lately. I don’t remember seeing anything offensive from the floats. There might have been, but I guess I was too busy trying to get beads. And to all the bloggers, you better give me more stuff next year.

Mardi Gras in New Orleans

Saturday, February 12th, 2005

Mardi Gras is one of the things that makes New Orleans such a great place to live. It began January 6th as usual, but ended early, February 8th this year. Luckily I did not get hit in the head by anything hard, but the rest of my family did get hit with beads and even a coconut. This year for Zulu we got 8 coconuts! That is a record for us. We usually get two. My family is always in a dog parade called Barkus. We have a Weimeraner and a Westie. And for Muses we got three shoes. When we usually don’t get any. This year for Barkus the theme was Hairy Pawter and the Sorcerer’s Bone instead of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. They always come up with funny ideas like that. For example, last year it was a fistful of collars instead of a fistful of dollars. We love Barkus, but our most favorite parade is Muses. Their symbol is a red high heeled shoe. They throw Barbie Dolls dressed up like Muses. I hate Barbie and prefer video games and stuffed animals much more. I also like to read. If I ever catch a Barbie Doll I will give it to my little brother Gilgamesh. He loves them. They also throw shoes like I told you earlier. Me and my dad camp out the night before Mardi Gras Day so we can get a good spot for the next day. We like to see Zulu. Mardi Gras might be and probably is my most favorite carnival. Me and my family love Mardi Gras.
